What an OC actually needs
OC is short for original character: someone you made up, either for a world of your own or dropped into one you love. Fic, art, roleplay, a campaign, a game — same word everywhere.
Most OC makers hand you a name and a hair colour and stop. That is a profile, and a profile does nothing. A character needs six things, and this tool gives you all six at once.
- A name that fits the world. A name is the first thing that tells a reader where they are.
- A role. What they do all day decides who they meet and what they can lose.
- One look, not a full description. A single detail beats a paragraph of measurements.
- A personality with a contradiction in it. Nice and brave is not a person.
- A quirk. The small repeated thing readers use to recognise them.
- A want. Without one, your OC sits in the scene and waits.
Why the world is the first question
Pick the setting before anything else, because everything else depends on it. A water engineer with a tally scratched into their forearm belongs to one world. Somebody who runs the village bakery and names every hen belongs to another. Swap them and both stop making sense.
That is why this generator splits on world rather than on personality type. All six lines come from the same setting, so they agree with each other instead of fighting.
Using it for fanfic
Roll one, keep the quirk and the want, and rewrite the name to suit the canon you are writing in. Those two lines are the ones that survive being dropped into somebody else's world, and they are what stop an OC reading as a self-insert.
Using it for roleplay
Take the sheet as it is and answer in character for ten minutes. If you run dry, the want tells you what they would push for next.
