- Title
- The Long Way Round
- The premise
- Two people who have spent a year being carefully, deliberately civil get assigned to the same three-week project. There is one desk. Neither of them mentions it. By day four they have worked out a rota nobody agreed to out loud.
- What goes wrong
- The thing that would fix it is the one thing neither of them is willing to say first, and they are both running out of reasons to stay in the room.
- Your first line
- There was one desk, and it had been one desk for four days, and neither of them had said a word about it.

A prompt is not an idea. An idea is "enemies to lovers". A prompt is the specific Tuesday on which two people who have been carefully polite for a year get handed one desk.
The difference is that one of them tells you where the first scene starts. That is why this tool gives you an opening line. A premise you cannot begin is a premise you will not write.
- Name the situation, not the feeling. "One desk" beats "tension".
- Give it a clock. Three weeks, one evening, six nights running.
- Make the problem specific. "He already knew" is a plot. "Miscommunication" is a tag.
- Start late. The good first line lands after something has already happened.
Using it for a fandom
Put the two names in the box. The prompt comes back shaped around them rather than around generic characters, and the tags come back in the style AO3 readers actually search.
Using it for original fiction
Leave the names out and describe the shape instead: "two rival chefs, slow burn, nobody says anything for 40k words". It will invent the people.
