Horror Roleplay With a Partner Who Knows When to Go Quiet
Start a horror roleplay tonight with a character who hears the scratching in the walls too, or walk into the free text adventure below alone. Characters on Rabu AI remember the scares you shared, so the house from Tuesday is still wrong on Friday. How dark it gets is your call, and nothing stops you closing the chat halfway down the stairs.
Quick answer
Pick a character or a story below and open with a place and one wrong detail: a phone ringing in an empty house, footsteps in an attic you sealed. Keep your turns short and let the character describe what it sees. Characters remember earlier chats, so one haunting can run for weeks. Starting is free.

Your adventure
-
Water laps at the third step of the reading room. The flood came in while you slept at the desk, and now the lamps hum above a black, still lake of drowned books.
Across the room, on the highest shelf, a single book is glowing. Something moves under the water between you and it, slow and patient, like it has all night.

Most AI horror goes wrong in the second reply, when the character explains the monster. Once the thing in the basement has a name and a backstory, it stops being scary, so keep the questions open and let the character fill the room.
- Write short turns. "I open the cellar door" leaves the character room to describe what's down there. A paragraph that already decides what's in the dark leaves it nothing to reveal.
- Ask about sounds. "What's that sound?" gets you a description. "Is it a ghost?" gets a yes or a no, and now you both know too much.
- Let your character be wrong. Check the window and find nothing, then open the closet and find your own coat. By the time something really is there, you'll both flinch.
- Pick a writer that likes detail. Comet writes more descriptive replies and Meteor writes like a novelist, which suits a slow walk down a dark hallway.
- Regenerate the early reveal. If the creature shows its face in reply three, generate another response or rewind and try the hallway again.
Horror roleplay ideas to start tonight
Each fits in one opening message. Paste one into a chat, or run it through the plot generator for a twist you didn't see coming.
- The night desk. You both work overnight at a hotel with no guests booked on the fourth floor. The elevator keeps stopping there anyway.
- The rental cabin. The listing had perfect reviews. The guestbook inside has one entry, copied over and over in different handwriting.
- The call-in show. You host late-night radio. Tonight's caller describes your studio exactly, down to the mug on your desk.
- The snowed-in lodge. There's one road out and it's buried. Every morning the snowman in the yard stands a little closer to the door.
- The sleep talker. Your roommate talks in her sleep in a voice you don't know, and it's always about the room next door. Your apartment doesn't have one.
- The lighthouse. The supply boat is three days late and the lamp turns itself on at noon. Tonight someone is knocking on the door that faces the sea.
Pacing dread across a horror RP chat
Dread builds over days, which is where a chat with memory beats a one-shot prompt. Characters on Rabu AI save the events you shared, so if Monday ended with a handprint on the inside of the window, Tuesday can open with you asking whether it wiped off.
Spread the scares over a few sessions. Start with something you can explain away, like a door you swear you closed, and work up to something you both saw. Stop each night while a question is still open, and the next chat starts tense.
Cozy horror in a chat, or full survival in Story Mode
Cozy horror with a companion
The storm knocks the power out, you share one flashlight and a pile of blankets with a character, and every creak upstairs turns into a dare to go check.
This plays well in a regular AI roleplay chat, with the character under the blanket next to you. Group chat puts 2 characters in the scene, so one can be the skeptic while the other is sure the house is cursed.
Full survival in Story Mode
When you want a whole town of trouble, play it as a story. A narrator runs the world and plays the cast while you play your part. Tap Director to leave a note like "the radio cuts out tonight" or "keep the creature off screen", and tick the box to keep it for the whole story.
At a dead end, Choose Your Path suggests moves, and Branch from here lets you try the other door without losing the first one. Find one in the horror stories to play, and read how to continue a story with AI before a long run.
Set your limits and stop any time
Say how dark you want it in your first message: "spooky, no gore" or "psychological, and nothing happens to the dog." In Story Mode, a permanent Director note keeps that rule for every turn.
If a scene goes somewhere you don't like, regenerate the reply, rewind to an earlier point or close the chat. Rewinds can't be undone. Characters are told never to write your reactions, so whether you scream or laugh at the noise is always your line to write.
