Everything is saved in one browser on one device, so clearing site data can wipe months of work, and long stories start to drift.^[6][14]

What Is the Perchance AI Story Generator?

Perchance is a site for making and sharing random generator pages, run by one developer and paid for with ads. Its AI pages, including the story generator, run on shared plugins that send your text to Perchance's own server GPUs. Logged-out visitors see an ad at the bottom of the page, and that ad money is what keeps the lights on.^[9][11]

The story generator itself is simple to start. You write an optional overview with your characters, plot, style and lore. Then it writes one to five paragraphs per press, or keeps going with no limit. You can tell it what should happen next, set the next major event in the story arc, rate paragraphs with a thumbs up or down, undo, regenerate, and edit any line by hand.^[6]

What Perchance actually does (checked October 2026)

Some pages that rank for this search, including ZeroTwo and story-generator.net, say the Perchance story generator has no save, no memory and no export. That is out of date. We read the generator's public source code on October 28, 2026, and here is what it does today.^[21][22][6]

Multiple saved stories arrived in February 2026, which is probably why older reviews missed them. So the honest summary is this: Perchance saves plenty, it just saves it in a place you can lose.^[15] Last verified: October 2026.

"With pictures", fanfic and the other versions

When people search for the Perchance AI story generator with pictures, they usually mean the AI Visual Story Generator. It writes one paragraph at a time with an illustration, and it has its own save, load, share link and download buttons. There is no page at the exact "with pictures" address, and the main generator now has its own "make images" button anyway.^[7][6]

The AI Fanfic Generator runs on the same engine, framed for fanfiction and ships. Beyond those, Perchance hosts hundreds of community copies (forks) of the story generator with names like "enhanced" or "core story writer". 3. Model swaps nobody announced. Users noticed new models in September 2025 and again in June 2026. Some liked the change, but a lot of writers said their stories suddenly read differently, and a popular reply put it simply: nobody asked for it.^[12][10]

4. Long stories drift. The generator stretches memory with summaries, and its own help text warns that a long overview means reduced memory. Past a certain length, characters forget details and plot threads loosen. Users have threads titled things like story quality "deteriorated massively" since late 2025.^[6][20]

5. Repetition. The developer has acknowledged that the newer model repeats itself and fixates on topics. Regulars joke about the same stock phrases turning up in every genre.^[10]

6. Outages and silence. Perchance has had a Cloudflare outage, error waves, a slow server move in May 2026, and on September 28, 2026 a site-wide block page that users first took for a personal ban. There is no status page, so users find out on Reddit.^[17][11]
