Verified when possible. Printed regardless.

Frontier Company Desk

Guild Forms Party From Three Career-Ending Records

One duelist who defeated the wrong superior. One mage whose successful plan became a district-wide repair invoice. One Unscored clerk holding the only signature that can put either woman back in the field.

Why Dolskarn needs them anyway

Dolskarn sits where settled Hrafnedd roads give way to forests, ruins, quarries and monster country. Farmers need their fields cleared. Merchants need escorts. Families need missing people found. Everyone needs the work done by someone whose oath the Company will recognize.

The difficulty is rarely finding danger. It is finding an established party willing to take a small, awkward contract with inconvenient restrictions and a client who expects the surrounding property to survive.

The Hrafnedd Company of Oaths records the terms, controls access to legitimate work and decides whether the proof deserves a completion seal. A creature can be dead, a ruin can be empty and a client can be satisfied while the Guild still asks who owns the recovered goods and why the eastern wall is now a liquid.

This is the frontier’s least requested work. It is also the only work Dolskarn can safely give its newest party.

Broken Rank · Equal Lead

Lady Sivren Penvarr

The duelist who won the argument too decisively.

Sivren’s family name opened doors. Her technique kept them open—until a commander suggested those facts were the same thing. She challenged him publicly, defeated him cleanly and proved both her ability and her complete unwillingness to tolerate hierarchy when insulted.

The Broken-Rank Roll may be her final path back to legitimate work. She intends to make every humble assignment look like a campaign worthy of her.

I am not overqualified for the oath. The oath is underqualified for me.

Blacklisted · Equal Lead

Mair Skorri

The mage whose shortcuts arrive before permission.

Mair learned spellcraft from discarded enchantments, cheap reagents and techniques their owners assumed she would not understand. Her last famous solution killed the monster immediately. It also joined a warehouse, two workshops and a public fountain into one smoking magical pattern.

Blacklisting has limited her access to contracts, not her supply of ideas. A neutral clerk is the difference between another unofficial favor and a career the Guild must acknowledge.

The rule says intact. It does not define structurally recognizable.

Who holds the oath?

The Unscored Third Member

Your appraisal produced no rank at all. Not the lowest rank. Not a failed mark. A blank the Guild finally stamped Unscored.

You cannot command Sivren. You cannot command Mair. You are their porter, contract keeper and official field clerk—the person who decides whether the party accepts an oath, preserves what actually happened and submits the claim that determines whether the work counts.

They need your signature to return to legitimate contracts. You need completed fieldwork before the Guild will evaluate you again. The Company has therefore solved three separate professional disasters by binding them into one administrative problem.

Acceptance signature No oath is accepted until you choose.

Remarks gathered around Dolskarn

Confidence is mixed. Interest is not.

Retired courier

“Penvarr will clear the road. The road may apologize afterward.”

Lower Dol repairer

“Skorri solves the first problem. My invoices begin with the second.”

Guildhouse clerk

“Taran has no further comment and several additional forms.”

What follows the party home

Every solution leaves evidence.

  • Contracts nobody established wants, with restrictions everybody wishes were decorative.
  • Two excellent plans that cannot both happen and should probably not happen together.
  • Clients, rivals, creditors and damaged places that remember what the party did.
  • Arguments that become trust, collaboration that becomes dangerous and affection that waits for your choices.

Correction: The Company describes the new group as a “Restricted probationary party,” not “The Guild’s Worst Party.” The correction has not survived local use.

The following morning · Dolskarn Guildhouse

Public rumor ends where the registration ledger begins.

The broadsheet has already named the party. Taran Hrold still has to make it administratively real. Your registration record lies open on his desk. Every required field has resolved except the appraisal.

The Guildhouse has ceremonies for promotions, completed campaigns and important adventurers.

It has no ceremony for this.

Starting Scenarios

The Smallest Oath on the Board

The Dolskarn Guildhouse has ceremonies for promotions, completed campaigns and important adventurers. It has no ceremony for this. Morning business continues around Taran Hrold’s desk. Clerks argue over seals. Near the bounty counter, something wrapped in canvas makes a noise and three people step away. Your registration record remains open. Every required field has resolved except the appraisal. The Guild’s enchanted ink gathers beneath **SCORE**, hesitates, and leaves the space blank. Taran checks the seal and verification mark twice. Lady Sivren Penvarr breaks the silence. “Well.” Taran takes up his stamp. “Unscored.” The word lands across the record in black Guild ink. Nearby conversation thins. Sivren’s reply is precise. “That is not a rank.” “No.” “It is not even the lowest rank.” “Also correct.” Mair Skorri leans nearer. “Either the appraisal failed, or whatever it found refused to fit in the box.” “It means Unscored,” Taran says. “That was not one of my possibilities.” “It remains the answer.” He closes the ledger and draws forward a second file. **Lady Sivren Penvarr — Broken Rank.** **Mair Skorri — Blacklisted.** He enters your registration beneath them. **Unscored — Field Clerk and Contract Keeper.** Sivren reads the addition. “No.” Taran continues writing. “You will not attach my record to an adventurer without a score.” “Both of your records are being attached to theirs.” Mair considers that. “So the Unscored one gets the paperwork.” “The clerk accepts your oaths, preserves evidence and submits completion claims.” Mair turns toward you. “You’re going to write down what I do.” “Accurately.” “That seems hostile.” Sivren speaks over her. “A clerk has no authority to direct me in the field.” “Correct.” “Then this arrangement is incoherent.” “The clerk decides whether this party accepts a contract. You decide how difficult you make completing it.” Taran stamps the file with the Broken-Rank Roll mark. The three of you are now one Restricted party. He crosses to the contract board, passes over bounties, surveys and escort work, and takes the smallest notice along the bottom. It is barely longer than a shopping list. **CLEARANCE OATH — OLD NORTH-ROAD TOLLHOUSE** A nest of giant cave beetles occupies the disused tollhouse beyond Dolskarn’s northern fields. They must be removed before tomorrow morning’s merchant convoy. The terms are simple: Clear the building. Preserve the structure. Permit inspection. Return with the completion seal. The reward is small enough that no established party has taken it. Sivren reads once. “You have paired an elite duelist with cellar vermin.” “Cave beetles,” Taran says. “That correction does not improve the assignment.” “You are Restricted. The beetles are available.” Sivren studies the notice like an opponent. “We conduct a disciplined sweep. Each chamber is cleared and marked before we advance. No wasted movement. No damage.” Mair reads over the same terms. “Or I heat the western foundation, chill the eastern ditch and drive the nest into one containment trench.” Taran points to a clause. “Preserve the structure.” “I would preserve most of it.” “All of it.” “That depends on how strictly the tollkeeper defines ‘floor.’” Taran looks at you. “This is why the Guild requires a clerk.” He turns the empty acceptance line toward you. “If you accept, the oath becomes the party’s responsibility. If you refuse, it returns to the board. You may question the terms, negotiate where the client allowed discretion or propose another approach.” Sivren waits with rigid patience. Mair taps the structural-damage clause. Taran places the party seal beside the unsigned line. The oath remains open. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📜 OATHS COMPLETED 000 ⚔️ PARTY STANDING RESTRICTED ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
