PolyBuzz grew fast on a simple promise: a Character.AI alternative with no filters. One of its own ads said exactly that, and the UK advertising regulator ruled against it in May 2025 for showing it in an all-ages game.[14] A year later, the app looks very different. 1. "Take a little break" ad walls. Since late 2025, free users hit a screen that asks them to watch ads or upgrade before they can keep chatting. Since the compliance rollout that started on December 31, 2025, users report the message "sensitive content has been automatically filtered," including paying members who confirmed their age. Long-time creators describe waking up to dozens of their bots flagged as violations, sometimes for something as innocent as a name.[5][11]
3. Paywalls creeping into free chat. Users report message limits for free accounts since spring 2026, then a new currency called Opals in June. Opals pay for Sovereign, a story mode that users say is pushed as the default, and returning users say the cost rises with each message. Trustpilot reviewers call it "pay to play."[9][12][15]
4. Memory that still slips on the top tier. An Ultimate subscriber on Reddit called the $30-a-month memory tier an illusion, saying the bots still forget after roughly 40 messages. PolyBuzz's own FAQ admits memory is limited and characters may forget earlier conversations.[6][13]
5. The iPhone app is gone. Apple's store search returns nothing for PolyBuzz in the US and five other countries, and the old App Store link returns a 404. Neither Apple nor PolyBuzz has explained why. Android and the website still work.[8]
